Raising our flag at the Bad River in Fort Pierre, SD, where a plaque on a rock explains that this was the first place an American flag was raised in South Dakota.

It was where the Bad River (left) met the Missouri that the Corps of Discovery met the Teton Sioux in a confrontation that might have brought the whole thing to a halt. After a couple of love/hate days, the group was treated well and allowed to proceed on.
